AOC responds as polls put her among Democrats’ top picks for 2028

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said that she was "flattered" as polls have shown she is one of the leading contenders for the Democratic party's potential presidential nomination in 2028.
The New York progressive has raised speculation in recent months over whether or not she's interested in higher office, with a recent battleground state poll putting her in the number one spot for the Democratic primary.
According to a July 22 Granite State Poll, a States of Opinion Project conducted by the University of New Hampshire, AOC just passed former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for prospective Democrat candidates in the New Hampshire presidential primary amongst 648 likely voters.
"Well, I feel very deeply flattered and humbled," she told a reporter who asked her thoughts about being a leading contender in a poll. "I don’t want to discount how supportive people have been. It genuinely is very meaningful."
"We also want to make sure that we’re making decisions that put the country first. So I’m just thankful for the support."

Other polls have also shown that she is one of the leading contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination, too. In a new poll by Emerson College this month, Buttigieg took the number one spot, whilst California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff and Ocasio-Cortez were trailing just behind him.
The congresswoman has not completely ruled out a presidential run in 2028, she told Politico this week, and many have considered her as a possible option next election.
In a recent interview, Vice President JD Vance, who is considered one of the potential frontrunners for the Republican nomination in 2028, said he thought she would be the leading candidate for the Democratic Party next election. In response to Vance's answer, AOC told reporters she hopes he is a nominee, too.
In May, AOC said that "they assume that my ambition is a title or a seat."
"And my ambition is way bigger than that. My ambition is to change this country."
