Duffy will share her story of being kidnapped and sexually assaulted in a Disney+ documentary being produced in the U.K.
The singer, 41, disappeared from music in 2010 after releasing two albums and winning a Grammy
Duffy first revealed her ordeal in 2020, describing being drugged, held captive and raped over several weeks
Duffy will be opening up about her sexual abuse and kidnapping in a new Disney+ documentary.
The “Mercy” singer, 41, is returning to the spotlight to discuss the traumatic experience in a Disney+ documentary, produced by Rare TV and Stellify Media. Disney+ EMEA Head of Content Angela Jain announced the project at Series Mania on Wednesday, March 25, Variety and Deadline reported.
Duffy, who rose to fame in 2009, revealed in a now-deleted Instagram post in February 2020 that she was kidnapped for four weeks and raped. Her candid post came after she disappeared from the music scene in 2010.
“[Duffy] disappeared off the face of the earth and hasn’t really spoken about what happened in that time, other than about five or six years ago in a social media post,” Jain told Variety. “She has entrusted us with her story, so we really have a huge responsibility to handle this with care and sensitivity, because she’s speaking about what happened to her for the first time."

The feature-length documentary is being made in the U.K. and will tell the story of Duffy’s disappearance from the music industry for over 10 years, after becoming one of the country’s most successful artists, per Deadline.
Duffy released her first album Rockferry in 2008, which she won the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. She released her second album Endlessly in 2010, before taking a hiatus from music the next year.
In 2020, Duffy addressed her disappearance from the spotlight on Instagram, saying that she was “raped and drugged and held captive over some days” and was trying to heal from the ordeal.

The Grammy winner shared more details of the ongoing assault in a personal essay published later that year.
“It was my birthday, I was drugged at a restaurant, I was drugged then for four weeks and traveled to a foreign country,” she wrote at the time. “I can’t remember getting on the plane and came round in the back of a traveling vehicle. I was put into a hotel room and the perpetrator returned and raped me.”
“I am sharing this because we are living in a hurting world and I am no longer ashamed that something deeply hurt me, anymore,” Duffy continued. “I believe that if you speak from the heart within you, the heart within others will answer. As dark as my story is, I do speak from my heart, for my life and for the life of others, whom have suffered the same.”
