**Warning: This article contains spoilers for *Fire Country* season 4, episode 20, "Try Not To Drown."**
Can our *Fire Country* heroes keep their heads above water in the season 4 finale?
Station 42 has come a long way since the season 4 premiere, when it was revealed that patriarch Vince Leone (Billy Burke) died in the devastating Zabel Ridge fire. As teased by showrunner Tia Napolitano, Chief Brett Richards (Shawn Hatosy) has overcome his initially antagonistic relationship with the team, providing some much-needed stability through a season of grief.
But with a new season finale comes a new disaster for our protagonists to face head-on. In the penultimate episode, a fire at the Pineville Dam spiraled out of control, ravaging the infrastructure and causing the dam to break. With Edgewater in the flood zone and Station 42 and Three Rock in disaster response mode, Bode (Max Thieriot) was on a side quest to make amends with Danny Marks (Mike O'Malley), a victim of Bode's criminal past.
*Fire Country*'s season 4 finale, "Try Not to Drown" borrows its title from the best advice Chief Richards and Sharon Leone (Diane Farr) can offer to their crews when the Pineville Dam breaks. We'll have to wait until season 5 for an official casualty toll, but as Richards says, things are looking grim — and on the eve of what should be Jake (Jordan Calloway) and Violet (Nesta Cooper)'s wedding day, to boot.
With the floodwaters rapidly rising, how does *Fire Country* season 4 end? Does Bode turn himself in and get sent back to prison? Do Jake and Violet make it to the altar? What about the Three Rock crew? And will we ever see Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) again? Below, we break down all the major moments in the finale.
Bode redeems himself once again

In the penultimate episode, "Rain Check for Tomorrow," Bode visited Danny Marks at his rural cabin in an attempt to make amends for physically assaulting Danny during a home invasion 10 years ago. Danny wasn't eager to forgive Bode, despite the years he's spent rehabilitating his life and working with Cal Fire, and Bode was ready to turn himself in — even if it meant a return trip to prison.
"Try Not to Drown" finds Bode, now joined by Jake, trapped in the cabin with Danny while the flood waters rise. It's an understandably stressful situation for Danny; the last time he was trapped in a home with Bode, he was severely beaten. In the years since, Danny struggled with anger problems that pushed his ex-wife away and left him estranged from his son. He tries to push Bode and Jake away, too, telling them he'll be fine without their help, even as the flood swallows an entire GMC pickup truck whole outside in a beautiful moment of product placement.
Still, Bode manages to connect with Danny, explaining that he also made choices that pushed his family away, but that there's hope for reconciliation. When Danny asks how, Bode says, "They forgave me faster than I forgave myself."
Unfortunately, their conversation will have to wait. The flood waters break through the cabin windows, and Danny gets pinned by a tree and some furniture. Bode and Jake — whose patience with Danny's resistance to being helped is wearing mighty thin — manage to free Danny and relocate to the roof. Eventually, Jake makes the call to take Danny's kayak to the nearby boat ramp and return with help.
Chief Richards and Sharon are calling all the shots

Chief Richards and Sharon spend much of the finale sequestered from the rest of the crew. Richards is worried about his teen daughter (she's fine), and Sharon is obviously concerned because Bode is AWOL. For the most part, the episode cuts to Richards and Sharon to give periodic updates on the severity of the flood, which reaches "biblical" proportions in no time at all.
Ultimately, Sharon is forced to decide whether she wants to devote valuable search-and-rescue resources to finding her son, but she ultimately makes the right call in choosing to focus on locating and helping evacuees.
It seems like Sharon is heading into season 5 with a good head on her shoulders. We can also assume that Richards will probably return to Station 42 in the fall.

Manny is fighting to protect the hospital — and Roberta

Things are much more dicey at the hospital, where Manny (Kevin Alejandro) is posted up and waiting for assistance from Three Rock. The hospital decides *not* to airlift Roberta (Paola Núñez), who quickly becomes an emergency case when Camille (Natalie Zea) determines that her aneurysm has ruptured.
Roberta needs surgery immediately, but the flood is threatening to destroy the back-up generator and leave the hospital without power. While Manny is keeping a relatively cool head, he's not sure Three Rock is qualified to help him protect the hospital.
Three Rock rises to the occasion

Jules Latimer as Eve Edwards on 'Fire Country'.
But the members of Three Rock are eager to prove their mettle, especially Hartman (Simon Auclair), whose jealousy over Ace's graduation earlier this season left him with a massive chip on his shoulder. Eve (Jules Latimer) leads Three Rock to the hospital, where they'll be the only firefighters onsite. Whether they're ready or not, Eve says, "Tonight, you guys *are* 42."
When Manny needs help relocating the back-up generator someplace high and dry, and the rest of the crew starts flagging, it's Hartman who steps up, rallying Three Rock with a motivational pep talk. Even Manny has to hand it to him, but Hartman proves he's matured and insists that saving the day was a team effort. It might not be long before Hartman graduates to Station 42 proper.
Bode settles up with Danny
Jake returns to Danny's cabin with a boat, accompanied by Sharon and Richards in a rescue helicopter. Once everyone is back at the station, Bode tells Danny that he's ready to turn himself in to the police.
"We're good," says Danny, who's decided to take Bode's advice and try to reconnect with his estranged family. Before he leaves, Danny tells Bode, "Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope I never see you again." (We're probably going to see him again, right?)
Jake and Violet finally tie the knot

Nesta Cooper, Jules Latimer, and Jordan Calloway on 'Fire Country'.
Reunited after the flood, Jake apologizes to Violet for the way he reacted to her concerns about his brother, Malcolm (Dominic Goodman, who sits the finale out). "Only thing I cared about out there was getting back to you, to tell you that I want to marry you today," he says, and to his surprise, she agrees. Not for nothing, when Violet asks about Roberta, Jake mentions that he left her in the care of Gabriela — so maybe the door is open for her return, after all.
Surrounded by their friends, family, and about 500 twinkly string lights, Jake and Violet exchange vows while Eve officiates. Unfortunately, Jake left the rings in the pickup truck that was consumed by the flood. Bode makes an impromptu decision to offer up his father's ring, which he's been wearing on a chain around his neck. He exchanges a look with Sharon, who quietly agrees and offers up her wedding band to Violet.

Alona Tal, Max Thieriot, Diane Farr, and Kevin Alejandro on 'Fire Country'.
As for Bode, he's been inspired by Jake and Violet's nuptials and decides to finally tell Chloe (Alona Tal) what she's been waiting to hear: he loves her. "It's about time," she says. We'll have to wait until season 5 to see how long this happily ever lasts.
