Greg Norman believes that Bryson DeChambeau has LIV Golf to thank for his YouTube success.

The CEO and part-creator of the circuit was replaced by Scott O’Neil in September 2025, and now the future of the worldwide golf league looks uncertain after they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a few days ago. LIV Golf burst onto the scene in 2022 and began poaching from the PGA Tour, stealing some of the worlds best and biggest names in Jon Rahm, Cameron Smith, Phil Mickelson, and DeChambeau.

The two-time U.S. Open champion draws a large fan base from around the globe thanks to his golf game and success, but mostly thanks to his YouTube platform, which has over 2.7 million subscribers.

Norman, though, believes that without LIV Golf, DeChambeau’s social media successes wouldn’t be anywhere near as notable.

"I would say Bryson's in the right place at the right time with the right personality and the right vision, but he can only have that because of LIV because we gave him his IP rights,” Norman told The Real Deal podcast.

DeChambeau’s personality is constantly drawing headlines, as the 33-year-old is known as the 'scientist' who 3D prints golf clubs. He also created headlines at the Open Championship after acting out due to a two-stroke penalty.

Norman noted that LIV Golf allowed DeChambeau to hone his craft and creativity, as the Tour star could truly be himself when not playing the sport.

“When you're not playing a LIV tournament, you can go do whatever you want, you can monetize your IP,” said Norman,

“If you want to wear blue jeans and a white t-shirt and make money, go for it. So he saw this incredible moment of time for himself, and I'm so happy and so pleased for him that he has maximized on that," he said.

The PGA Tour just recently changed its social media protocols, thanks to the possible downfall of LIV Golf, as its past social media rules were incredibly strict.

"If he stayed with the PGA Tour, he would have no chance, because the PGA Tour would own his IP, unless that's changed in the last couple of years,” said Norman.

“That gave him the opportunity, and I bet you there's a lot of players on the PGA Tour saying, 'why am I not doing that?' So kudos to him, I think he's done a phenomenal job with how he's balancing himself with this.

"And again, LIV allowed him to do that because he only had 14 events and then the major championships of course, so he had the time to be able to go and focus on other things that could move on in perpetuity for him beyond LIV and beyond the PGA Tour."
