Over the years, Kim Kardashian has referenced everyone from Elizabeth Taylor to Princess Diana and Janet Jackson, but if there’s one Hollywood icon who seems to be her biggest inspiration, it has to be Marilyn Monroe.
Kardashian famously caused a stir back in 2022, when she attended the “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” Met Gala in the same iconic nude dress that Monroe wore to sing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy in 1962. Later that night, Kardashian ended up wearing a second Monroe look. And her homages to the famous blonde bombshell haven’t ended there; she’s actually paid tribute to Monroe again and again—be it with new platinum blonde hairdos, or skintight looks that accentuate her body. However, her latest fit was one of her strongest nods to Monroe yet.

For her day in the city, Kardashian turned heads in a striking white dress pulled from the Rick Owens Spring/Summer 2026 ready-to-wear collection. The body-hugging, bright-white halter design instantly brought to mind the iconic cocktail dress, designed by William Travilla, that Monroe wore in The Seven Year Itch. You know the one—famously blown up by the breeze from a subway grate.

While Kardashian’s look may have taken us into the ’50s, her accessories shot us straight back to the 21st century. Like many of the It girls these days, Kardashian embraced the shield sunglasses look with a set of oversize Gucci frames, and she completed her fit with a cropped ivory leather Rick Owens jacket and snakeskin-and-PVC pumps from Christian Louboutin.
Even as the Monroe references continue, Kardashian knows how to make an iconic look all her own.
