Olivia Wilde has shared why her opinion of Elon Musk changed over the years. The actor and director recalled seeing him as a smart businessman who once desired to help people. Today, she claims that she deeply resents him because of the opinions he apparently believes in. In a recent interview with Louis Theroux, Wilde spoke about the change.

During an appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Wilde looked back on visiting SpaceX after the company opened its Los Angeles headquarters. She wanted to visit the rocket facilities, and she met Musk through a nonprofit in Haiti that constructed hospitals and schools. Variety reported that Musk was interested in supporting the charity and gave a small amount of money. Wilde said, “I really resent him now. I really deeply resent him.”

Wilde said she was thankful for the donation. She told Variety, “I was confused by him. I would never have predicted he would go down the path he has gone down. He did seem really smart.” Later, she told Louis Theroux, “It was before he became this creature.” She said she had no idea he’d be a public figure who was so divisive.

Musk’s public statements changed her perspective of him, said Wilde. She claimed he has promoted misogynistic ideas and hurtful cultural narratives. She also linked his comments on low birth rates and wider discussions on gender roles and power. Musk has long believed that the drop in population is a significant danger to civilization.

Theroux also brought Wilde’s 2022 comments about Don’t Worry Darling to her attention. She said she may have been unfair when she called Jordan Peterson a “pseudo-intellectual” because he “obviously thinks about things deeply.” Still, she said her broader concerns about misogyny remain the same.
