Princess Diana made a poignant revelation about Prince William's early years. The former Princess of Wales, who died 29 years ago, recognized the weight her son carried from birth prior to her tragic passing.

Diana's life ended abruptly when she died in a car crash in Paris in 1997 at just 36 years old. She was denied the chance to see Prince William and Prince Harry mature, as they were only 15 and 12, respectively, at the time.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond developed a strong bond with Diana and came to understand her personally through her reporting on the royal family.

Looking back on insights gained from Diana, the 73-year-old revealed that the late Princess recognized William's path was challenging from the beginning.

Speaking with OK!, the royal commentator explained: "Diana had great faith in William, and told me she thought the country would come to realize that we were 'very lucky to have someone like William,' and I think her words ring true today."

In a touching moment, Diana acknowledged the weight William carried from his earliest days.

"She also told me that William felt the burden of his destiny," Jennie recalled. "Unlike other young boys, he would never have freedom of choice over the job he would do or the direction of his life."

His mother recognized that William being born heir to the throne made him different from every child, even those closest to him.

He was born to be king, and that, of course, set him apart from every other boy or girl, even from his brother," she said."

William acknowledged feeling "completely numb" following his mother's death. In a BBC documentary commemorating the 20th anniversary of her tragic passing, the now-42 year old reflected on walking behind his mother's casket, describing it as: "one of the hardest things I've ever done".

William, who has three children with Kate Middleton, revealed he used his long fringe as a "safety blanket" during the procession to Westminster Abbey.

"I felt if I looked at the floor and my hair came down over my face, no one could see me," he said. An alternative arrangement had been proposed for William to walk alone behind the casket, but Harry refused, unwilling to let his older brother endure that ordeal by himself.

"It didn't seem right that Willy would have such a hard time without me," Harry wrote in his 2023 memoir, Spare.
