Priscilla Presley is celebrating her 81st birthday months after reflecting on the decisions her late daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, made before her death.
Priscilla, who was married to Elvis Presley from 1967-1973, reflected on several aspects of her famous life in her 2025 memoir Softly, as I Leave You: Life After Elvis, which reflected on her life married to the famous rock star, as well as her years since with her daughter, who died in 2023 after going into cardiac arrest following a small bowel obstruction.
In the memoir, where she also admitted to being "desperate" while Lisa Marie battled addiction, she also reflected on the decision her daughter made that haunted her.

In the book, she reflected on when Lisa Marie sold 85% of her inheritance, including Graceland, because she was "broke," following a "personal and financial crisis" in 2005.
Priscilla admitted that she felt her daughter hadn't been receiving good financial advice, and addressing the issue was difficult because it would be "very delicate," and she had never anticipated her daughter trying to solve the problem the way she did.

Lisa Marie sold off the 85% of her inheritance in August 2005, retaining the house, grounds and her father's personal effects, but sold control of Elvis' legacy.
In the memoir, Priscilla admitted that the move "devastated" her and she was "gutted" to lose what she considered her "emotional home, not to mention losing control of Elvis's legacy."
"I was heartbroken," she admitted.

Five years after the music legend's death, Priscilla opened Graceland to the public, after being told she would need to sell is sine it was "bleeding money" after his death. According to the estate's website, it now welcomes more than 600,000 visitors a year.

Lisa Marie's ownership of the estate passed down in a living trust to her daughters, Riley Keough, and twins Harper and Finley Lockwood, after her January 2023 death.
The trust became a source of contention between Keough and Priscilla, though she denied that they had feuded, telling People Magazine in September 2025 that they never had a problem with one another.
"Riley and I have never had a problem," she said at the time. "I just have one battle, and that's with a certain person."
Her battle was with former business partner Brigitte Kruse, who, alongside another former business partner, Kevin Fialko, who sued her for $50 million, alleging fraud and breach of contract, and accusing her of removing her daughter from life support to regain control of the estate.

Priscilla filed a countersuit, alleging financial elder abuse and theft of $1 million.
"I know there's a lot out there that I did this to Lisa, I did that to Lisa," Priscilla said.
"There's a lot of people who didn't want Lisa and I to be close. We were very close. Lisa could be hard-headed, but so could I sometimes. We had a lot of good times together."
