The Western romance drama starred Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly as longtime friends-turned-lovers Staten Kirkland and Quinn O’Grady, who rekindle their old flame in the fictional Texas ranch town.

Deadline was the first to break the news on Thursday, citing diminishing streaming numbers compared to the first season. Netflix did not immediately respond to EW’s request for confirmation of the show’s cancellation.

At the end of season 1, Quinn left Ransom Canyon (and Staten) for New York. She returned in season 2, albeit with a British boyfriend, Oliver (Ben Robson). But by the finale, she rejects his marriage proposal, paving the way for Quinn and Staten to ride off into the proverbial sunset together in season 3.

“I always say the end of season 2 isn’t the end of their story. It’s actually just the beginning,” Blair told EW the day all eight episodes dropped on Netflix. “Falling in love and deciding to be together is the easy part. What happens after that? How do you keep that love alive? What are those other hurdles? What are the things you didn’t know about that person? Like really, truly knowing someone and living with them and building a life with them is the real big adventure.”

She continued, “So it took two seasons for them to end up together, but they still have a lot of hurdles and fun to come, but they’ll be facing them together instead of separate.”

Staten and Quinn, who had previously dated his brother-in-law, are “fated to be together,” said Blair. “She’s always known it was Staten since, like, back in high school. Like, this has been the love of her life.”

Blair also had big plans for Sidney (Heidi Grace Engerman), who vanished in the finale after she inadvertently sent Ellie (Marianly Tejada) into early labor.

The character “definitely has a presence in season three,” Blair told EW, however, she’d remain offscreen initially in order to “keep the tension of why Ellie is pushing Yancy [Jack Schumacher] away” moving forward. “And so I think keeping Sidney on the run for a while — I don’t know how long — would be really important in season three.”
