Alan Ritchson and his wife Catherine Ritchson have announced their separation following 20 years of marriage.
The pair wrote of their “friendship, grace and a commitment to becoming the strongest co-parents we can be” to their three sons.
The couple concluded by asking for “privacy and compassion.”
Reacher actor Alan Ritchson and his wife Catherine Ritson have announced their separation following 20 years of marriage. The couple shared the news with a joint Instagram post with a statement that read across several slides.
“After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way,” reads the statement. “We grew up together. We built a life and a family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the center of our world.”

The pair were in their teens when they met at a ballet class in Florida. “I’ll never forget seeing him for the first time in the studio. I turned to my friend Miriam and I said, ‘Who is that?’” Catherine recalled during a September 2023 episode of her “The Road to Wisdom” podcast. “He, at some point, came up to me and we just got chatting.”
They dated in high school and, after a brief break-up, reconnected in college and married in 2006.

“Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us—or the love and respect we will always share,” the statement went on.

The pair share three sons, Calen born in 2012, Edan born in 2013, and Amory born in 2015.
“The best gift we can give one another—and our boys—right now is friendship, grace and a commitment to becoming the strongest co-parents we can be,” the couple wrote.
They added, “We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming,” before noting that “change is hard enough without the whole world weighing in.” They concluded by asking for “privacy and compassion” as they navigate the separation.
Their announcement comes two days after Catherine shared photos on Instagram of a “solo trip.”
Speaking on the Today show last year, Alan opened up about his two decade-long marriage. “She’s my constant, you know, and we’ve been through—we’ve been through a lot, you know, we’ve been through understanding and learning about fame together,” he said, adding, “Fame is so toxic.”
