The Boston Celtics have reportedly signed former Sacramento Kings lottery pick Devin Carter to a training camp deal, according to recent reporting from HoopsHype senior contributor Mike Scotto. Per Scotto, the "Boston Celtics and Devin Carter have agreed to a deal" and "Carter will compete for an NBA roster or two-way spot in camp."

The former No. 13 overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft by the Kings, Carter put up 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2,7 assists, and just under a steal across 18.4 minutes per game with the Kings. His shooting, however (26.3 percent from beyond the arc, 71.3 percent from the free throw line, and 41.4 percent from the field overall) likely led to the Atlanta Hawks cutting the West Palm Beach, Florida native after he was dealt to the team earlier this offseason.

The Celtics, for their part, currently have one regular and one two way roster spots each that Carter could end up signing into if his camp stint is deemed a success.

However, given where Boston currently stands as a ball club that could exit the repeater tax should they remain under the luxury tax line for a second season in a row.

With a cap status that has them just $1.7 million below the luxury tax line, it is more likely Carter is playing for a two way spot that might be converted into a full roster deal later in the season once the pro-rated salary would fit under that line.
