Netflix announced that Mindy Kalingās sports comedy Running Point, starring Kate Hudson, has been renewed for a second season. The streamer broke the news on X in March 2025, writing, āItās official: See you next season. Running Point S2 is coming.ā
The post included a video montage featuring all the comments from fans demanding more of the show and Hudson announcing to the camera, āA good basketball team owner knows when to listen to the fans. So we hear you and so did Netflix. Running Point is officially coming back for season 2. Thank you so much everyone who watched the show so far. Iām just beyond thrilled because youāre really the reason weāre able to come back.ā
Kaling echoed her excitement in a statement, saying, āWe are so thrilled to be able to deliver a season 2 of Running Point to the fans of the show.ā
Hereās everything we know about season 2 of Running Point.
What will season 2 of Running Point be about?
Season 1 followed Isla Gordon (Hudson), an executive in Los Angeles who unexpectedly has to take over her family business: one of the biggest basketball franchises in the country, the Los Angeles Waves.
Hereās the official season 2 logline from Netflix:
āIsla Gordon (Kate Hudson) is no longer the surprise choice to lead the Los Angeles Waves, sheās the one everyone is watching. With the franchise finally rebounding after last yearās scandal, Isla is determined to prove sheās not just keeping the seat warm for her brother Cam (Justin Theroux). What she doesnāt know is that Cam is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to reclaim his post, turning every misstep into ammunition. As she tries to balance the pressure of running a franchise with devoting time to her personal life, every decision on and off the court counts. To survive the family power plays and the scrutiny of the board, sheāll have to rip up last seasonās game plan and come up with a whole new playbook if she wants to close out the season on top. From executive producers Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, season two of Running Point raises the stakes, deepens the family drama, and finds even more comedy in what it takes to run a modern sports empire.ā
The comedy has so far been loosely based on the life of Lakers president and co-owner Jeanie Buss, who is an executive producer of the series.
āHaving known Jeanie since I was a teenager, I felt a unique connection to the character,ā Hudson told Tudum. āJeanieās life and career in the male-dominated world of professional basketball are inspiring, and her willingness to let us explore a comedic version of that world was liberating. Jeanieās openness and sense of humor allowed us to push boundaries and have fun with the character. We were able to focus on the heart and passion of a woman striving to succeed in a challenging role.ā
Who will appear on season 2 of Running Point?
Returning cast members include Kate Hudson, Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandeman, Max Greenfield, Jon Glaser, Jay Ellis, Uche Agada, Roberto Sanchez, Scott Evans, and Justin Theroux.

According to Netflix, Townsend will play Norm Stinson, an excellent (and grouchy) veteran basketball coach who knows how to get the best out of his teams, but not always how to communicate; Anderson will play Leroy, Cam (Theroux)ās wild, sober companion; Marino will play Al Fleischman, the self-appointed ātoilet king of Orange Countyā who wants better courtside seats to the Los Angeles Waves; Dewey will play Magnus, the general manager of the Toronto Trappers; Moorjani will play Aruna, the L.A. Wavesā incredibly blunt star accountant who can finagle her way around any number of financial hurdles; Picking will play Tommy White, the Wavesā new pretty-boy star point guard; Maduegbunam will play Benson, the newest Waves player; and Turner will play ZoĆ© Debay, a beautiful and confident former child star whoās now on the verge of becoming an A-list actress.

On Aug. 15, 2025, Netflix announced that season 2 filming was underway in Los Angeles. The caption read: āWeāre so back. RUNNING POINT season 2 is officially in production! šā
When will season 2 of Running Point come out?
The new season will arrive on April 23, 2026.
Can I see a trailer?
Yes! The trailer for the upcoming season arrived on March 26, 2026, showing Isla Gordon back at work with the Los Angeles Waves. Her brother comes back to help her with the family business and swears that he is fine working underneath her, but has a few changes to his personality, namely getting in touch with his sensitive side (and potentially developing a substance abuse habit).
While Isla is doing her very best to make the basketball team profitable, several cracks appear. The teamās finances are in the red, and they need a new coach to help turn things around. The pressure seems to build and leaves Isla questioning her abilities. āI just give and I still canāt make anyone happy,ā she says in one heated moment, while in another she says, āpeople still treat like the total mess I used to be.ā
The trailer also teases cameos from Octavia Spencer, Nicole Richie, and Lisa Rinna. Watch it below:
