Kate Middleton and Prince William are scaling back their schedule of royal duties during their children's school break for Easter

The Prince and Princess of Wales usually keep engagements to a minimum so they can spend family time with George, Charlotte and Louis

It's unclear if the family will join the royals for Easter this year

Kate Middleton and Prince William are getting ready for some time with the family.

After the Prince and Princess of Wales had a busy few weeks, including helping to host the Nigerian state visit and attending the new Archbishop of Canterbury's installation mass, the couple is taking a step back from the public eye. They are expected to scale back their schedule of royal duties in the coming weeks as their three children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 — are on a school break surrounding Easter. Lambrook School, where the trio of siblings attends near their Windsor home, ended its term on Friday, March 27, and students won't be back in the classroom until April 22.

Prince William, 43, and Princess Kate, 44, typically try to keep work to a minimum when their kids are on school vacations so they can spend time together as a family.

It's possible that William, Kate and their children will travel abroad during their time off. Last year during Easter break, they went skiing in the French Alps.

The family often retreats to their country home of Anmer Hall in Norfolk during school breaks, where they spend time outdoors together. In a rare interview with the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast in 2020, Kate revealed that her favorite times with her family are "outside in the countryside and we're all filthy dirty."

It's unclear whether the family of five will join the royal family for their traditional Easter church outing. Although Prince William and Princess Kate have regularly attended in the past and have begun bringing their children to the gathering as well, they've skipped Easter with the family for the past two years.

No matter where they spend the holiday, there's sure to be plenty of festive treats. The Prince and Princess of Wales once shared that their children previously celebrated Easter with an egg hunt, William also revealed that they usually mark the holiday with plenty of candy.

"There will be a lot of chocolate being eaten here, don't worry!" he said during their first-ever full royal engagement via video call amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Then Kate turned to her husband with a laugh and quipped, "You keep eating it!"

The couple's decision to focus on their family during school breaks is just one example of how they're raising their children differently than previous generations of royals, leaning into Kate's non-aristocratic upbringing despite their children's future royal roles.

"Those children look pretty happy with life," a palace insider previously told PEOPLE. "A lot of it is the stabilizing normality Kate brings — and that's how she grew up. William absolutely loves it."
